About Maria Kowalska

Maria was born in Kraków, Poland, in 1986. She moved to the UK in June 2008 to work and now lives in Reading, Berkshire.

She got settled status in 2019 under the EU Settlement Scheme. She sat and passed the Life in the UK test on the first attempt in November 2019 at the Croydon test centre. She became a British citizen in March 2020, at a ceremony at Reading Town Hall.

Maria works in adult education, helping ESOL learners. She writes the study guides on this site in warm, plain English for people whose first language is not English.
